چکیده

This study assessed the relative effects of two intelligent speed adaptation (ISA) systems (informative and actively supporting) on simulated driving performance and acceptability in a sample of inexperienced and experienced drivers. Participants drove a series of simulated drives under three conditions: no ISA (control), ISA informative and ISAactively supporting. The informative systemsignificantly reduced speed andwas particularly effective in reducing top-end speeds. Comparable reductionswere not found for the ntelligent speed adaptation dvanced driver assistance systems

Speed Behaviour of Car Drivers: A Statistical Analysis of Acceptance of Changes in Speed Polities in the Netherlands

Lowering speed of car drivers wil1 have positive impacts on environmental pollution and the number of road accidents. It is therefore a potentially interesting policy option for governments which want to reduce negative externalities of transport. In this paper the acceptance of such polities is analyzed by means of a survey questionnaire among car drivers and public transport users. First, an ...

Adapting ISA system warnings to enhance user acceptance.

Inappropriate speed is a major cause of traffic accidents. Different measures have been considered to control traffic speed, and intelligent speed adaptation (ISA) systems are one of the alternatives. These systems know the speed limits and try to improve compliance with them. This paper deals with an informative ISA system that provides the driver with an advance warning before reaching a road...

Analysis on acceptance of elderly drivers for intelligent speed adaptation using a driving simulator

This paper aims to make a discussion on acceptability of elderly drivers for Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) in Japan. In Japan, the issue focusing on the traffic safety of elderly people has become one of most important issues because Japan has been the most representative country to be the rapidly ageing society. As a measure of traffic safety, the ISA is considered as an effective measure...

The development of a method to measure speed adaptation to traffic complexity: identifying novice, unsafe, and overconfident drivers.

To monitor novice driver performance in the first years of solo driving, a test aimed at assessing speed adaptation to the traffic situation was developed and evaluated. The Adaptation Test consisted of 18 traffic scenes presented in two (almost) identical photographs, which differed in one single detail, increasing the situation's complexity. As the pictures were presented randomly and partici...

Perceptual Processes Used by Drivers During Overtaking in a Driving Simulator

This study investigated the control strategies and decision making of drivers who were executing overtaking maneuvers in a fixed-base driving simulator. It was found that drivers were frequently inaccurate in deciding whether it was safe to overtake in front of an oncoming vehicle. One source of error in this situation was the control strategy adopted by the driver; in several instances our dri...
